History
Are you
- Looking to train in Martial Arts,Thai boxing, Submission Grappling and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?
- Trying to choose aclub that suits YOU and helps you to acheive what YOU want out if it?
Are you finding
- All clubs begin to look the same? Many clubs advertise completion of many Dans - 3rd Dan Black Belt, 5th Dan Black Belt, Belts in kick boxing Muay Thai (they dont actually exist).
- Some clubs advertise training in many different styles, some claim to have over 20 years of training experience, but the trainers do not look like they are that much older!
You are not alone - and maybe you can look a bit closer at a real alternative.
Martial Arts DownUnder (M.A.D) was founded by Dale McMaster with the help of several martial arts friends in 2004 as a school to suit families, but with the old fashioned intesity needed to strive and
survive in today's society.
Dale's Martial Arts journey began, 1990 in freestyle karate under Mick Nicholls/Rick O'Brien.
Freestyle was, and still is a predecessor to MMA with Mick blending the hardest styles and creating a strong corresponding syllabus for his students.
Dale graded for black belt in 1994.
In between this training, Dale was also exposed to Shootfighting Grappling seminars in 2000, by John Will.
The 'ground game' was something that would stay with Dale for some time, and forms a large part of his current syllabus.
Mick Nicholl's gradings were (and still are) famous for their intensity. Dale graded for first Dan in 1995 as an adult, and continued training with Mick in his full time centre in Thomastown, in both freestyle and Thai Kick-boxing.
Mick was one, if not the the first to travel to Thailand and England, training with the renowned Thai trainer, Master Toddy.
In between continuing with his Thai training, and Australian freestyle, Dale's family commitments required a shift of priorities, and the advanced learning of these disciplines, gave way to 8 weapons, Cardio and sparring sessions. Dale ventured to various local, and not so local schools, but could not find a culture within these that suited him.
For over a year Dale continued to train with a fellow Dan in his garage, where many a drop of sweat, and claret was spilt!
In 2001, Dale again retrned to the learning processes of Australian freestyle Martial Arts under Rick O'Brien, and set about to grade for his 2nd Dan rank in 2002.
Training continued until 2004, and Martial Arts DownUnder (M.A.D) was created. 14 years of hard training have resulted in a comprehensive syllabus for M.A.D. students being made available. A full range of styles including Thai Boxing, Kali and Freestyle Karate are taught, by an instructor, who himself is solid, hard fought and has learnt from the best.
Continuing on with his training, Dale begain training in BJJ, alongside trainers, who were testing these waters themselves. Dale has trained and learned from the likes of Minotora Nougera, John
Wayne Parr, Dan Insonato, Glenn Zwien, Rigan Machado, Nick Tolewski, Dennis Kelly, Sing Siri, Chai Sirisute, Thiago Stefanutti, Paul Slowinski and finally back to John Will Machado BJJ, training as a private student.
In between this training, Dale still trains with SuperBoy as a private student. Super Boy and Super Bon provide seminars for M.A.D students along with other well known Australian fighters.
Dale's training continues, and his past acheivements and Adult gradings are available for all to see on the walls of the M.A.D gym.
M.A.D is a reflection of a lifetime of Martial Arts training
Freestyle Combat - 1990
Grappling/ Shootfighting - 1993
Thai Kick Boxing/ Muay Thai - 1993
till today...
As you can see above , Dale's training continues right through to today, BUT he has the right amount of past experience and current techniques for his students.
So, look closely and find a culture that is right for you. Look past some of the gimmicks and false promises, and you may find that the best place for you train is just around the corner.
Quietly creating REAL world Champions.
